The purpose is not simply to become a better dancer - but to become an expressive, embodied performer.
Throughout the year, dancers can participate in:
• Weekly Dance Training
• Dance Film Productions
• Theatre Performance
Training includes:
• Movement Creation
• Ballet Fundamentals
• Contemporary Dance
• Elements from Other Dance Styles
• Acting Fundamentals
• Fighting / Stage Combat Fundamentals
IBDAW is not a dance style. It is a dance creation system - a stage between the abstract and the concrete.
Pronounced "Ibdaa", IBDAW is rooted in the Playing State Philosophy and uses any movement necessary and belongs to no single form. Contemporary, modern, and ballet techniques train the body, but they do not define the system.
IBDAW was created by Emeel Safie in 2012 out of a refusal to perform movement without meaning. In IBDAW, movement exists only if it serves the idea. If it does not, it is removed.
IBDAW is a playground for dancers, not a factory - a space for co-creation, inquiry, and clarity. What matters is to question, to feel, and to translate ideas into physical form.
Who is it really for?
This is for dancers and performers who want more than technique.
It is for you if you feel:
"I want to express myself more freely."
"I want to connect body, voice, and emotion."
"I want meaning, not only movement."
"I want to create, perform, and grow."
Whether you want to perform on stage, appear in films, grow as an artist, or simply develop yourself through movement, IBDAW Dance provides a space to train, create, and perform.
Built on the Playing State Method, the training helps dancers move with greater awareness, creativity, confidence, and expression.
