DAIP (Defence Awareness Instinctive Practice) is an instinctive self-defence method developed by Emeel Safie between 2005 and 2023.
DAIP is not a self-defence style. It is a way of thinking about defence. It’s for those who use their bodies as weapons in danger. It was not born in sport, competition, or traditional systems - but through real experiences with danger, pressure, and survival.
DAIP is not based on memorizing techniques. It trains instinct, awareness, timing, and immediate reaction.
The method draws from many disciplines including: Jeet Kune Do, boxing, Aikido, Jujutsu, movement training, and street fighting - while belonging fully to none of them.
In DAIP, we do not train to “win fights.” We train to recognize danger early, respond clearly, and create the possibility to leave safely. Anything that slows down instinct is removed. Anything that does not protect is useless.
It is rooted in the Playing State Philosophy, which allowed me to form these 2 key elements that set DAIP apart:
1- Instinct-first, not technique-first.
2- Uses many arts, belongs to none.
We do not perform self-defense - We sense, and act with clarity.
• Do you (or your group) want to feel confident in crowded, unpredictable places?
• Would learning how to defend instinctively — without memorizing forms — be useful?
• Could understanding your body’s weight and direction help in real-life situations?
• Do you want a training style that includes movement from multiple martial arts, but stays free of dogma?
• Are you looking for self-defence that actually works — for kids, teens, and adults alike?
If you felt connected to one or more of these questions, then the DAIP workshop is designed for you.
